Take The Next Step Towards Success …
Water Your Crops!
Challenging times create opportunities for those who make the best decisions. If you continue to be an above average manager, others who are not will be left behind, bringing more potential for you. Research, planning, and building relationships with field experts in several areas of your business can give you the winning edge. Sometimes a little risk can add value ahead of the curve giving you a jump start. Look around your neighborhood, county and perhaps a bit further. What methods and products are the winners using that you are not. You don’t have to try unproven methods, maybe just not normal practices in your neighborhood.
Irrigation is a method to put some control on the amount of water your crops get and when that occurs. If you can economically increase yields on your farm, then you can farm fewer acres and get the similar or greater total yield, or you can get more yield on all or more acres. Let your management capacity and access to other resources be your guide to which is better for you. If you are on the back side of sixty or seventy, maybe more with less fits you better. If you have more family members committing to the operation, maybe you add more acres and spread-out responsibility. I did mention getting good advice from outside professional sources, but you, the owner / manager, are in the best position to make the decision on what is best for you. You know your strengths and weaknesses and what you like to do. You know your farm and you know your financial situation better than others. Seek outside input but leave the final decision to you and your management team.
Associate with proven winners. Look at time in business, strength of the brand, reputation, and stability of staff. Are they committed to the business of working with customers like you? Can you determine if sound ethics are part of their DNA?
Farming is hard work and a huge commitment. Yes, there is risk. Those that farm were often born into it. It’s in the blood. With that kind of dedication, you deserve a decent return for your efforts. Work with people and businesses that share the solid commitment and dedication you have.
We at Michigan Valley Irrigation believe we have a bit of that DNA as well.
